Alderbrook Park | Brush Prairie, WA
I was expecting a nature preserve. I fully realize I could have googled more information about Alderbrook Park, but I'm glad I didn't. Judging by the course description, location and supreme two lane morning side-lit roads...I figured I'd be familiar enough with the scenery. On the drive up I started to visualize what kind of shots might look good and where depending on each race time, only to be completely and utterly shocked upon my arrival.
I was expecting a nature preserve and I got pink lemonade. On tap. From a bubbler/fountain. ARE YOU F*CKING SERIOUS?! I was expecting a nature preserve and I arrived to mini choo-choos, bouncy castles (not one, but two!) and a landlocked pirate ship. Not to mention the paddle boats...I do regret not taking out a paddle boat and snapping a few photos. All the joyous cackling, hilarious gaggles of children sputtering about and cheers over cold beverages led me to believe I wasn't the only one who felt like they were at summer camp again. It was a delight to share in the smiles of such a warm and beautiful late-summer sendoff.
The course was badass as well: tough but fair. All the tricky off camber sections, punchy sand and that descent made for great spectating. Zaaldercross, you killed it. I can't wait to return next year.
Great show everyone.
